How was your skiing this season?
2022/23 has been a wonderful season, albeit a little challenging at times. After a bit of a shaky start over Christmas/New Year, it well & truly got underway in January with an immense dump of snow. And ironically, this is how the season finished… with the most incredible late-season spring skiing conditions imaginable and 315cm of snow recorded yesterday in Lech alone.
So is this a sign that our season is changing?
It’s too early to say. It is true that early snow was a tad thin on the ground. But despite much negativity from the press and our friends at TikTok, reports from our customers proved that conditions were nowhere near as testing as some wanted us to believe. Only time will tell if the season moves forward in the future. For the moment, resorts are analysing data to ensure they keep improving and providing us with incredible ski holidays for many years to come. Huge investment continues to pile into development, sustainability, snow-boosting facilities and easy access. We must remember that these resorts thrive on holidaymakers to ensure their survival. They are ski resorts after all!
Heading into 2023/24
It is becoming increasingly clear that skiers are booking their holidays earlier than ever. The days of last minute bargains are fast reducing due to a hunger for the sport we all love so much. Availability gets tight, none more so than for the peak dates over Christmas, New Year & Half Term. Other weeks are becoming incredible popular too, and we are seeing increased demand for mid/late January, the first two weeks of March and Easter; which incidentally falls early next season over the weekend of 30th/31st March 2024. Be assured there will be snow then, there always is! In my 35 years of working in this amazing industry, there has not been one season without the celebrated “end of season dump.”

But remember their appeal can bring crowds and pressured piste conditions at times. World acclaim is wonderful, however it can be irking. Ask yourself this question; is it worth fixating on resort height if the queues are going to be long or the snow is going to be affected? I have finally ventured away from my beloved France and achieved a lifetime ambition of heading to The Dolomites. It is absolutely stunning and has taught me that empty, wide-open tree-lined slopes, superb mountain restaurants, friendly locals and great value is more key than ever. And who doesn’t want to spend €6 on an Aperol when you can spend €26 elsewhere!
