By strapping lightweight plastic snowshoes to your feet, you are able to walk through deeper snow and therefore enjoy a great area of terrain, stunning scenery and interesting wildlife. You can go with a local guide and explore hidden parts of the valley. Snow shoes can be hired from most sports shops. Although you can always grab a trail map and head off on your own, we do advise hiring a guide for maximum safety and enjoyment. With ESF (Ecole de Ski Francais), anyone from age 8 onwards can enjoy the calm away from the slopes. An afternoon of snowshoeing will cost €28 per person.

Ski Joering

One of the best Avoriaz non ski activities. Oh ye, it’s Ski Jouring. Escape the lifts and trek through the woods away from the lifts. A riderless horse is used which is controlled by the skier. A rig with reigns is connected to the horse’s bridle and the skier is towed along behind the horse on skis, holding onto the rig. You steer by using vocal commands and by pulling on lines connected to the horse’s bit. L’Ecurie des Frasses provide ski joering every day from December to April starting at the neck of the Joux green.

You can opt for an introduction course lasting 30 minutes for €30. A ride on a route of about 1 hour will cost €50. Reservation required.
