Val d’Isere Restaurants

Looking for the best Val d’Isere restaurants this season?

We know how important refuelling is on a ski holiday and Val d’Isere restaurants do not disappoint on the gastronomy front. Val d’Isere isn’t all about the skiing they have some fantastic restaurants serving a variety of dishes; from traditional Savoyard classics through to pizzas, there is something to suit most tastes. We have taken the time to list a selection of restaurants both on and off the mountain that we think are worth paying a visit, many of which we have had the pleasure of eating in.

La Grand Ourse

La Grand Ourse

Located near the nursery slope, this is one of the places to head for a top-of-the-range meal. The restaurant has kept its thirties feel, you will fall in love with the open fireplace, smoke tainted timber and cosy atmosphere. The restaurant offers a very traditional French menu, you can also have a true local Savoie dinner, in a real mountain chalet viewing the starlit sky or falling snow.

Food ranges from a triple cheese fondue to oven baked lobster gratin.

This is a small but very welcoming restaurant, with a more low profile than other restaurants in Val d’Isere. It offers gourmet cuisine including local Savoyard specialities as well as pizzas.

Le Casserole

Fantastic fondue, and typical French mountain food. They have 2 sittings, one at 7.30pm and one at 9 pm making the service really efficient but if you want to go at 7.30, don’t expect to have your table all evening!

Le 1789

The restaurant reputation revolves around the fire-grilled dishes prepared in front of the customers. You have to taste the extra-tender beef ribs. The owner Minet has also made a great selection of wines, at a reasonable price. The menu also includes specialities from the Savoie region including Savoyarde hotpot, tartiflette and cheese fondue. Service starts 6 pm daily.

Le Lodge

Great if you would like a cosy restaurant with a mountain feel. They do excellent steaks, pizzas, pasta and fondue at an excellent price. Le Lodge is also a cosy place to go for an après drink with live acts performing on selected nights. Located just opposite the Hotel Christiana so a great place from which to continue your evening at either Dicks, Bananas or Victors.
