Best Mountain Restaurants in Meribel

Meribel Mountain Restaurant has a fantastic range of dishes; from traditional Savoyard classics through to pizzas, there is something to suit most tastes.

Some of the best mountain restaurants in the 3 Valleys are found around the Altiport and Rond-Point. Some with superb sun terraces where you can relax and soak up the rays whilst enjoying your lunch, here are some of the hotspots in Meribel.

Plus – there are some great hidden gems in this list. It sounds like a cliche and surely there can’t be any unexplored places in Meribel. But we have managed to find a couple of tucked away restaurants we think you’ll love.

Le Clos Bernard
Le Clos Bernard Restaurant – Meribel

We hunted out this place down winding tracks through the trees. It’s easy to miss from the pistes, it took us a couple of laps of the chairlift to find it but it’s well worth the effort. Follow the signs through the forest, it winds around for ages, until you slip down into a clearing and are presented by one of the most magical spots in Meribel.

It was snowing when we got there which only added to the appeal of the roaring outdoor firepits and the gorgeous interiors full of hanging meats, open grills and decor fit for kings of old. You definitely need to book else you’ll be left tucking into a charcuterie board outside – great but not quite like the cosy interiors and delicious food.

You can ski back to the pistes from it over a lovely little path (if a bit flat) or just pop off the side (of the track) when you get to some lovely open and mellow powder fields and keeping left you’ll make your way back to the piste on one of our groups favourite skis of the holiday.

L’Atelier du Raffort

From one hidden secret to another. We came across L’Aetlier during the 2019/20 winter season and it’s quickly become a favourite. The building is an old workshop renovated into a cosy restaurant housing around 20 people. a real intimate affair.

You’ll want to taste the entire menu here, the best ingredients put together by an awesome chef/owner. The menu is small like the restaurant but is big on taste. The wood-fired grill only adding to the atmosphere.

You can ski here from the link over to Les Menuires/St Martin and down towards the bottom of the Olympe 3 gondola on the raffort piste. Off the beaten path, it’s the perfect reward for avoiding the crowds.

Téléfondue in Meribel

Why not try traditional mountain food in the sky. No, I’m not talking about the aeroplane food! You can indulge in a deliciously cheesy fondue with 4 friends while taking in the breathtaking views of Meribel.

A novel eating experience whilst seeing the mountains at night over a bite to eat and some specially selected white wine. How they ‘specially select’ the wine for a gondola is unknown to us but it’s nice, let’s leave it at that.

The soirée starts at down in the giant igloo with the ‘mountain spritz’ and soup bar before you board the gondola for a panoramic fondue induced wine laden tour and then head for the post-dinner drinks at the Sapin Bar with deserts and plenty of Genepi (a local herb liquor that packs a punch.

La Fruitiere – Folie Douce

Set up in the style of an old dairy come cheese makers with eclectic decor and plenty of milk bottles. Before the afternoon revelries of the cabaret-style entertainment and serious apres parties begin. The terrace is transformed into a panoramic outdoor restaurant to extend the inside space.

The menu is full of locally sourced ingredients and influences from traditional Savoyard dishes. It’s a contemporary restaurant to match the exuberance of the Folie Douce it lies within. There is a lunch time cabaret to enjoy over your swanky dishes and you might just be tempted to stay for the afternoons apres scene. Don’t blame us if you get very little skiing done today.

Open for two lunch sittings at 12:30pm and 2:30pm it’s definitely best to book La Fruitiere. But there’s also La Petite Cuisine which is a more casual experience with a gourmet canteen (still self-service) which you can just rock up and enjoy.

Le Rond Point – Meribel Mountain Restaurant

Ronde Point

A fantastic ski in, ski out suntrap terrace, great food and the wildest après-ski parties in Meribel as the sun goes down. You need to be sure of making advance bookings if you want to get a seat outside as it is hugely popular with British visitors.

You can either go to the snack bar that offers a range of hot paninis or if you are looking for something a bit more special then you should try their a la carte menu in the restaurant upstairs, with the signature dish of duck leg confit on rosti with roasted radiccio and redcurrants. The Rond Point is located just below the mid-point of the Rhodos gondola.

Telebar

Near the mid-station of the Rhodos Bubble and Le Rond Point, this is a great spot for pedestrian, beginners and more advanced skiers to meet up for lunch.  However, it is a much-loved mountain restaurant, so make sure you book ahead.

The Telebar is also a lovely place to stop for vin chaud, as there are 2 large, beautiful fireplaces to warm up by. One sits in the glass and wrought iron in the centre of the lounge, and the other a traditional chimneypiece in the dining room, both of which add to the homely atmosphere. Plus lunches on the terrace when the sun’s out – perfection.

Chalet Tognia

This a good value self-service lunch stop. Nestled in a little depression just above Meribel Mottaret, near the Combes lift, it seems to be often missed by passing skiers. A fantastic spot for lunch and a great little mountain secret you should try at least once. It has people coming back time and time again so they’re certainly doing it right in our eyes.

Just off the Aiglon piste on the way down to Mottaret from Courchevel, this is a good value self-service restaurant with delicious dishes. We’ve heard the steak haché is particularly good here. If you book there’s also a table service section and you may be able to squeeze in without a reservation if you’re lucky. Try and get one of the booths if you are sitting inside, they are quite cosy.

Also worth stopping in for a mid-morning hot chocolate stop just try not to stay till lunch.

Les Rhodedendrons

+33 (0)4 79 00 50 92

This large self-service restaurant has the usual menu but more reasonably priced than many on the slopes. It’s conveniently situated in the beginner area at the top of Rhodos 2 and is just a short walk for pedestrians. It remains a popular spot for its large terrace and good food, the location is spot on as well. One for a ‘just hit’s the spot’ lunch without expecting anything too fancy.

We hope you found The Best Meribel Restaurants post helpful. You don’t have to limit yourself to eating in your catered-chalet and the afternoon is a great time to explore the culinary delights of the mountains. Of course if you are staying in a self-catered apartment then it’s worth sampling the food around the resort.
