How will Coronavirus affect skiing in Les Arcs this winter?

Les Arcs have given a commitment to create a safe and enjoyable environment within the ski resort this winter. They’ve looked at how Coronavirus will affect skiing in Les Arcs and there’s an understanding that the situation is very fluid and government guidelines towards Covid-19 are likely to evolve as we get into the winter season. The resort has committed to making sure your ski holiday is trouble-free and memorable for all the right reasons.

In light of Coronavirus, Les Arcs have outlined a 7 step commitment to take care of you this winter:

Les Arcs Covid Commitment
  • Respecting the health regulations
  • Risk-free reservation
  • A personal welcome
  • Diving into the great outdoors
  • Providing non-ski activities
  • Child-friendly focus
  • That you’ll have a good time

But what does this mean in reality? Below we try to answer some of the questions on all of our minds. How will Coronavirus affect skiing in Les Arcs, how ski holidays will operate and how we can get the most out of the mountain:

When will Les Arcs open for skiing?

The planed opening date for the Les Arcs/Peisey Vallandry ski area is from 12th December with the wider Paradiski area opening on the 19th December. Though as always, this is subject to the snow conditions.

How will the ski lifts operate?

It will be compulsory to wear a face mask in all lift queues as well as on the lifts for anyone over the age of 11 years old. All gondolas will be fully cleaned at least once a day. Hand sanitiser distribution points will be set up across the resort as well as social distancing instructions and signage.

Will I still be able to rent skis?

All points of sale will be adapted to accommodate you in the safest way possible. All staff have been trained in the health risks and preventative behaviour and they’ll wear facemasks to reduce risks. There is a dedicated Covid-19 representative to oversee the implementation of good practice and hygiene procedures.

Plus card payments will be encouraged over cash.

How will Covid affect ski lessons?

We haven’t heard anything specific from Les Arcs regarding ski lessons. However with 200km on your doorstep and 425km in the wider area there’s ample space to adhere to the 1m social distancing across the mountain. Staff will be trained in preventative measures, social distancing outlined and hygiene standards raised throughout the resort.

A personalised welcome

Les Arcs are putting people on the ground when you arrive to make sure the transition to the ski resort is as easy as possible. They will be able to help you with parking, lift passes and getting your bearings and they may even help out with your snow chains if you’re lucky.

What about social distancing?

Les Arcs are hot on this, with plans for simple but effective measures to make sure you can enjoy your holiday with confidence. Social distancing instructions and signage will be in place around the resort.

What will apres ski be like this winter?

We’ve seen an emphasis on non-ski activities that can really elevate your winter experience. From dog sledding to paragliding, snow shoeing and sledging. See the full list here. There’s plenty to explore outside the apres bars.

As for the drinking and dancing side of apres ski, we haven’t heard what the atmosphere will be like just yet. We’ll have to wait and see what measures will be in place.

But if spectacular scenery is up your street you could always hunt out the best viewpoints in resort instead. Take a look at the list here.

What about children?

There will be plenty for kids to do. Les Arcs have said there will be both indoor and outdoor experiences on offer and childcare will still be available. You’ll just have to book in advance. There are some handy child care options here.

Environmental considerations

Les Arcs are encouraging all to really think about the environment at this time as well. From making it compulsory to carry a bag to clean up your used face masks (they take around 450 years to biodegrade), to pocket ash trays for your buts and picking up your own litter. It sounds simple but it makes a huge difference.
