Powder White’s Top 5 Mountain Restaurants in Verbier
Verbier has some superb mountain restaurants to relax in after a hard day tackling the Tortin or taking on Mont Fort – so don’t risk ending up in a self-service chip shop and take note of our top five restaurants in Verbier (in no particular order) on the mountain to enjoy superb lunches – all of which have been rigorously tested by the team at Powder White: (don’t forget to check out some of the top restaurants located in the many hotels in this resort).
Le Carrefour

A bit of an institution for Verbier lunchtimers – it’s speciality is rosti – Swiss grated potato pancakes, that are served in loads of different ways, but generally different combinations of cheese, ham, eggs and more cheese, with a refreshing salad on the side. Or if you really want push the boat out, go for the Pierrade (hot stone) where you can cook your own piece of fillet steak, with a range of delicious sauces and relishes, served either with frites or dauphinoise potatoes – utterly delicious. Head there on sunny days to have lunch on the large sun terrace and then have a post prandial snooze on the deckchairs that are scattered on the snow just outside.
Le Dahu

At the bottom of the Le Chaux area, this is a restaurant of two halves, Le Break Dahu for a quick Panini or a burger, or Restaurant Le Dahu for a more relaxing lunch. On the face of it, the menu looks pretty standard, and then the food appears – immaculately presented (think soup in kilner jars, or croute maison sprinkled with dried wild flowers) and absolutely delicious. Served with a smile, this restaurant is an absolute cracker.

Have your lunch sitting above the clouds! Or it certainly feels that way, with this traditional mountain refuge converted into an excellent dining spot, perched on the side of the mountain with the most incredible views of the valley below at an altitude of 2457m. Only head here on a sunny day, as otherwise you will literally be sitting in the clouds, and order the cheese fondue, as it is the one dish that keeps itself warm. Watch with amusement at the poor waiters trying to locate the diners and shouting out numbers in any number of languages!
Chez Dany
On the way down back to the resort, look out for the little wooden Chez Dany sign nailed to a tree and wind your way through the trees (not difficult) to a little hamlet where the restaurant resides. They server the traditional mountain fayre, but there is an atmosphere here that makes it feel very authentic and special. The speciality is Spaghetti Dany – pasta, tomatoes, ham and egg combined into a very filling yet delicious bowl of food. Wills and Kate used to hang out here pre-George, so you could even rub shoulders with royalty. You can also get up here at night via a caterpillar mobile and toboggan down at the end of the evening – great fun after a few shots!
La Marmotte

On the Savoleyres side of the resort, this super restaurant delivers on all levels – great traditional food with a twist, lovely friendly service, glorious sun terrace for good days, and a cosy roaring fire for the snowy days. It tends to be quieter than other restaurants on the Medran side, purely down to the fact that less people ski on Savoleyres, but it is safer to book as the restaurant does have a loyal following.
