There’s More to The Alps than Just Skiing!

Thinking of adding more adventure to your Skiing Holiday this winter?

With the ski season fast approaching, did you know that there’s a huge choice of alternative adrenaline sports to discover in The Alps.

Here’s a quick guide to wet your adrenaline appetite…

Fatbiking?

Fatbiking in Zermatt

This unique experience is a lot of fun during the day but at night it becomes a truly extraordinary adventure! Ride on the snow trails through the dark winter wonderland of Zermatt. Darkness & silence except for the crunching of the snow under the extra wide mountain bike tyres. Ideal for the slightly fitter amongst us, experience is an advantage but not absolutely necessary. A group price is CHF130pp for a 3 hour tour. For more information, go to www.fatbikezermatt.ch.

Ice-Diving:

Ice-Diving in Tignes

This is taking adrenaline sports to the extreme although it is not for the faint-hearted! You will be accompanied by a qualified instructor and no experience is necessary. This incredible adventure is operated by www.evolution2.com in Tignes Le Lac and prices start at €99 per person. Be part of film history and dive in the waters made famous by the film Le Grand Bleu where the ice scene “in Peru” was shot!

Bob-Racing in La Plagne

Olympic Bobsleigh?

How often have we watched the Winter Olympics dreaming of pushing ourselves to our ultimate limit? Why not give the famous bobsleigh run a go in La Plagne. This incredible thrill will stay with you forever. You have the choice of riding with friends in one of the specially adapted rafts, or if you’re really brave, you might want to try the single luge! Prices start at just €48pp and for as close an experience to the Olympics as you can get, its worth giving the bob-racing a go. Its fast! Book online at the local tourist office website.

Toboganning:

Toboganning in Verbier

This is perhaps the ultimate choice for families looking for some real snow fun and we cannot recommend the run in Verbier highly enough. This is a thrilling adventure which is over 7km long and has a drop in altitude of 711 metres! The more intrepid amongst us may choose to take the hairpin bends at speed however I personally am more likely to take in the beautiful surroundings! Book online at the Verbier Sports Office.

Zip-Lining:

La Tyrolliene at Val Thorens

La Tyrolliene in Val Thorens is the highest zip line in The Alps. The 1300m long ride will take you up to speeds of over 100km per hour and allows you to experience what it feels like to fly high above the mountain peaks. Be warned though, it does rise to over 250m above the ground, so those with a fear of heights might be best to avoid. A zip-run costs €55 and can be booked on-site. More information can be found at Val Thorens Officiel.

Huski-Sledding?

Huski-Sledding in Megeve

Megeve is home to the most difficult dog-sledding race in Europe. We’re not expecting you to race with 550 athletic dogs, but we do recommend giving this wonderful experience a go. An initiation drive will teach you the techniques needed before advancing to a more performance drive. Prices start at €170pp. It is worth combining it with an add-on drive and a warming evening drink for a truly unforgettable adventure. Bookable online at www.montduvillard-nord.com.

So there you have it, our guide to just a few of the amazing adrenaline sports the snowy mountains will have on offer this winter ski season. If you need any more advice or inspiration, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 020 8877 8888.
