Bond Season is upon us so we thought we’d create some excitement and relive some incredible mountain moments over nearly 60 years of watching our favourite secret agent. Since Sean Connery first introduced us to 007 in 1963, there have been some pretty spectacular scenes!
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

Location: Mount Asgard, Canada & St Moritz, Switzerland
Perhaps the best opening Bond scene of all? We think so. This was the greatest stunt ever seen on film at that time. A jaw-dropping ski jump off the top of a mountain culminating with Bond opening a Union Jack parachute. Nobody does it better.
Spectre (2015)

Location: Solden, Austria
The Tyrol was the perfect location to stage dramatic duels and action-packed chases with threatening villains. The spectacular road with the highest tunnel in Europe and the quaint village of Obertilliach really depicted this picture postcard area of Austria perfectly. And the impressive Ice Q restaurant situated 3000m above Solden provided the ideal setting for Bond in all his glory.
The World is Not Enough (1999)

Location: Chamonix, France
Filming alongside Sophie Marceau who played bad-girl Electra, this was Piers’ third outing as our favourite British spy. The skiing scenes on the Vallee Blanche are absolutely draw-dropping, the stuff of dreams. This 20km off-piste run is definitely one for the bucket list!
For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Location: Cortina d’Ampezzo
More wild chases on skis and motorcycles through the Dolomites which provided the perfect backdrop with its absolutely stunning mountain peaks. The film was shot at several locations including the ice-rink, the bobsleigh track, the observatory and the magnificent Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel. It is no wonder that this incredible ski resort is in great demand among die-hard Bond fans.
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)

Location: Murren, Switzerland
Perhaps the greatest (and saddest) Bond movie of all. Its most famous landmark is the revolving restaurant at the top of The Schilthorn near Murren, the headquarters of the research institute of villain Blofeld. To this day, the famous logo is emblazoned all over the menu, so why not take a visit and order yourself the “Martini 007!”
The Junfrau region seems to be a particularly popular location for Bond directors. In Grindelwald, for example, a fast-paced escape scene on skis was shot. There are also fast car chases between Stechleberg and Lauterbrunnen on the ice rink, at the Furka Pass and in Andermatt. Despite popular belief, the opening scene of Tomorrow Never Dies was NOT filmed at Courchevel‘s altiport, it was in fact at a lesser known airfield in The Pyranees!
